Learning Unit 5 : American Express

To service card members and merchant relationships, American Express maintains information about card members' spending with each merchant, who is also an American Express customer. If a customer uses the American Express card to charge a pair of shoes at a particular store, that information can be shared with the store's owner, who on his own might not be able to keep track of customers' purchase and preferences. Working with American Express, which provides information from its vast database, that merchant can offer special discounts on his or her best customers. For example, the customer's next monthly statement could include an offer such as "Buy another pair of shoes at this store and receive 25 percent off"
